UPND Itezhi Tezhi member of parliament Twaambo Mutinta says his district is cleaning up the social cash transfer mechanism by ensuring that only verified and qualifying beneficiaries remain on the register.
Mr. Mutinta has disclosed that the district audit reveals that in the past there were beneficiaries with shared national registration card numbers, others appearing in more than one district, and civil servants putting their children and relatives on the beneficiaries list.
Mr. Mutinta also states that the district is investigating the beneficiaries of the keeping girls in school program to ensure that only vulnerable and deserving girls remain on the list.
The lawmaker says beneficiaries with such cases will not get paid as payment commence next week until they have such anomalies resolved.
He has since advised beneficiaries to visit the national registration office to make corrections on their national registration cards and assured those who do not qualify that government is working on mechanisms to link them to other social programs.
