3 SCOs signs MOU to curb Malnutrition

Indaba agriculture policy research institute has underscored the need for small scale farmers to diversify to other forms of agriculture in order to scale up nutrition in the country.

Speaking during the signing ceremony of a memorandum of understanding among three organizations indaba agriculture policy research institute  (IAPRI), the national association for small scale farmers (NASSF) and  program against malnutrition (pam) which is aimed at curbing malnutrition in the country through agriculture, IAPRI executive director chance Kabaghe noted that fish farming and livestock rearing are viable farming systems that can promote nutrition in the country if well harnessed.

Mr. Kabayi also notes the need for small scale farmers to move away from the system of only planting maize once a year but start planting maize twice a year for the country to have the produce at all times.

Mr. Kabayi has since commended the seed companies for quickly responding to climate change by manufacturing seed varieties that germinates under climate change.

Speaking at the same event program against malnutrition executive director Francis Katamala notes that for the country to fully address malnutrition there is need for government to increase sensitization on diversification to other forms of agriculture.

Meanwhile national association for small scale farmers in Zambia NUSFAZ executive director frank kayula notes that there is need for the small scale farmers to take advantage of the vast land that is fertile to diversify to the farming of soya beans and tomatoes which have a good market locally and internationally.
