GEARS says calls by stakeholders on DPP maybe justifiable

GEARS Initiative says calls by some stakeholders for the Director of Public Prosecutions to resign could be justifiable especially after overstepping her boundary following the decision by the DEC to rearrest former KCM provisional liquidator Milingo Lungu.

GEARS Executive Director McDonald Chipenzi says whatever the DPP will do between now and then may not be appreciated regardless of how convincing her position may be on any matter.

Mr.Chipenzi says public confidence in the DPP has been eroded by the one act of writing a letter to the Drug Enforcement Commission stating that they needed to get permission from her to re-arrest a suspect.

He says this lone act has landed the DPP into a net which her opponents could have set up for her.

Mr Chipenzi believes it will be very difficult for the DPP to come out of this mess and that the best she can do is to step down on her own without being forced.
