Former Secretary to the Cabinet Leslie Mbula says Economic Equity Party (EEP) president Chilufya Tayali crossed the red line in his recent utterances that border on national security leading to his arrest for mutinous conduct.

In a statement obtained by Q-News, Mr Mbula says having sworn to the official secrets as a senior civil servant, he’s reluctantly responding to a number of press queries from several media houses bordering on the security of the nation.

He says Mr Tayali’s conduct is a violation of Section 48 of the Penal Code and Section 4 (3) of the State Security Act of the Laws of Zambia.

Mr Mbula states that having served in the Public Service for many years, his counsel to citizens is that there are laid-down procedures and processes in dealing with issues of grievances faced by government employees, including issues that border on national security.

He has reminded young political activists like Mr Tayali that even when they are politicians, they belong to a society which should protect national interest.

Mr Mbula has also observed with concern leakages, on social media, of government information and documents which are either classified or not ready for public consumption.
