The Financial Intelligence Center (FIC) says its outstanding performance in fulfilling its mandate has seen the Anti Money Laundering Group entrusting Zambia with spearheading a project on Quality Financial Intelligence.

Speaking during an interaction meeting with some Members of Parliament in Lusaka today, FIC acting Director General Liya Tembo says the center rates itself at 4.9 out of 5 in terms of fulfilling its mandate since it was established in 2013.

Ms Tembo says this is evidenced by some of the success stories and other institutions such as the Zambia Revenue Authority(ZRA) sending them intelligence assessment reports.

She adds that joining the Edmond Group comprising  over 165 countries globally has also been one of the major achievements of the FIC as this gives them access to a wider platform to conduct its operations beyond Zambia’s borders.

And Ms TEMBO HAS urged parliamentary committees to engage the private sector in the fight against money laundering and other economic and financial crimes.

Meanwhile making a presentation to parliamentarians on the operations of the FIC, Director Compliance and Prevention, Diphat Tembo has urged Members of Parliament to engage the center more often as strategic partners in preventing money laundering and other financial related crimes.
