Economist Chibamba Kanyama is confident Zambia will not have difficulties in restructuring its debt before securing the International Monetary Fund (IMF) package because the government has so far demonstrated good will to this cause.

Mr. Kanyama has observed that Zambia has already gone past the Staff Level Agreement which he says is the most critical part towards securing an IMF program.

He says it is under very rare circumstances that the IMF Board would refuse to approve the position of its management on a country.

Mr. Kanyama tells QTV news in an interview that the remaining discussion will focus on how far the country has gone with debt restructuring and is confident that this will progress well.

He has noted that the government is making headways in negotiating with its creditors.

Mr. Kanyama is certain that the IMF is fully involved in assisting the country to ask creditors to agree to debt restructuring.
