Energy expert Johnstone Chikwanda has urged government to consider subsiding fuel as a temporal measure to cushion the impact of high fuel prices on the citizens in light of the continued Geo-political tension between Russia and Ukraine.

And Mr. Chikwanda who is also energy forum chairperson has predicted an upward adjustment of fuel prices this month end.

Mr. Chikwanda tells Q news that the current instability and building up of crude oil prices means that there will be an increase in the commodity price this month end and more so that there are currently no subsidizes in place at the moment.

He has observed that various countries are responding differently to the impact that the Geo-political conflict between Russia and Ukraine has on crude oil and it will therefore be advisable for the new dawn government to temporarily suspend the policy of no subsidies should the prices become worse ,unless there is de-escalation of tension.

Mr. Chikwanda has also stated that the 30 fuel price review mechanism should also be revised as the fundamentals that underpin the policy currently appear to be significantly challenged by what is happening on the global market.
