Recruitment of health workers commences

The Ministry of health has advertised the recruitment of 11,276 health workers, with the period for receiving applications being seven days from today.

And four directors in the human resource department at the ministry of health have been sent on forced leave in connection with irregularities in the number of health workers in health facilities across the country and the number of health posts and rural health centers.

In a ministerial statement to parliament on the recruitment of health workers, minister of health Sylvia Masebo says applicants are expected to apply to respective district health directors with a copy of the application submitted to the district commissioner as a safeguard measure.

She says for positions such doctors and other specialized health fields, applicants will be required to apply through the provincial health director and a copy submitted to the provincial permanent secretary.

Ms Masebo states that the jobs advertisement which has started running today will also be placed on community radio stations and will also be placed in public places in remote areas while announcements will also be made through churches.

She adds that treasury authority for 11,276 health workers will now be 1^st may, 2022, considering that recruitment will be conducted between March and April.

And Ms Masebo has disclosed that four directors in the human resource department at the ministry of health including the director of planning have been sent of forced leave after providing conflicting numbers of health workers and health posts in provinces to those provided by provincial health directors.

Ms Masebo says the ministry has since asked cabinet office to send auditors to conduct an audit and establish the true establishment of health workers and health posts in the provinces.

The minister suspects the existence of ghost workers who are on the payroll.
