The University Teaching Hospitals children hospital owes in excess of K3 million to local pharmaceutical companies for drugs supplied in 2019.

UTH Children’s Hospital senior medical superintendent Dr. Musaku Mwenechanya says the institution only received three grants from Government in 2019 and went several months without receiving grants, forcing it to get drugs which were needed on credit from pharmaceutical companies.

Dr. Mwenechanya says the debt has negatively impacted the children’s hospital as they have been unable to get required essentials and effectively provide services.

He said this when health minister Sylvia Masebo toured the institution to appreciate services being offered.

Dr Mwenechanya has since appealed to government to help the hospital by settling the debt.

In her response, Ms Masebo has promised that government will find avenues of helping the hospital sort out the debt.
