Northern province hit by Fall army worms

Northern province has been hit by the outbreak of the fall army worms which have invaded maize fields in all the 12 districts of northern province.

Northern province agricultural coordinator Silvester Nyendwa has disclosed the development to Q news that the infestation rate is currently at 11.8 percent.

Mr. Nyendwa says the maize crops that have been affected are those that were planted earlier before the onset of the rains in january.

He adds that the fall army worms invasion is as a result of the recent dry spells which were experienced.

Mr. Nyendwa has since assured farmers that government through the department of the disaster management mitigation and unit is doing everything possible to ensure that they bring the pests under control.
