GEARS Initiative Zambia has condemned the recent incident of violence in Kabwata constituency by-election.

Gears initiative executive director McDonald Chipenzi says it is very worrying that barely a day after nominations and pledges of peaceful campaigns for Kabwata parliamentary seat slated for 20 January, 2022, violence has already started showing its ugly face caused by the ruling UPND cadres.

Mr. Chipenzi says it is expected that the UPND leadership strongly condemns and cautions the perpetrators of such conduct as its tolerance may dent the new dawn government’s fight against cadre oriented lawlessness and impunity.

He states that Zambia should not allow itself to slide back into lawlessness, impunity, intimidation, harassment and political intolerance against political enemies which characterized the previous administration.

Meanwhile, Patriots For Economic Progress (PEP) leader Sean Tembo is disappointed with the failure by the new dawn administration to allocate adequate police officers to manage the nomination process for the just ended Kabwata by-election, a situation he claims left some of his party members assaulted and PEP banners torn.
