Opposition Democratic Party (DP) president Harry Kalaba has accused the electoral commission of Zambia of interfering in the party’s internal affairs by refusing to allow the party’s candidates to file nominations in the 20th january,2022 by-election.

Mr. Kalaba says the electoral body appears to take sides by suggesting that there are two factions in the dp despite being in constant correspondence with the secretariat.

He says the DP as a party, is not being challenged in court, but that it him as an individual and therefore denying the party’s candidates filling in nominations is unjustified.

Mr. Kalaba adds that the move has disfranchised the DP and its supporters in the three by-elections slated for January 20, 2022.

The DP, on Tuesday, failed to file in its nominations for the Kabwata constituency and two local government by-elections in Liangati ward of Senanga, western province and Sokontwe ward of Milenge district of Luapula province owing to internal wrangles.
