Civil Society Scaling-up Nutrition (CSO-SUN) has advised government to give farmers who have not yet received their fertilizer and maize seeds under the Farmer Input Support Program early maturing seeds.

CSO-SUN country Coordinator Mathew Mhuru tells Q -news that it will be a waste of resources and money for government to give the farmers who have not yet received their maize seed, the late maturing seeds at this time of the farming season considering the poor rainfall pattern being experienced and the lapse in time for planting.

Mr Mhuru says his organization is aware that government has delayed to deliver fertilizer and seeds under FISP to framers in some parts of the country, hence the need for those in charge to replace the maize seed with other crops that will grow with the current rainfall pattern.

He states that a huge crop failure is expected from farmers who will insist on planting maize at this time of the farming season and more so with the poor rainfall pattern.
