Seven Parliamentary candidates have successfully filed in their nominations with the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) in the Kabwata by-election slated for 20th January,2022.

Mrs Mubita says the Rainbow Party communicated that they had challenges which has rendered them unable to file in, while the DP failed to avail their candidate within the premises of the nomination center by 15:00 as required by law after two candidates representing different factions in the party earlier attempted to file nomination papers.

The seven candidates are Economic and Equity Party (EEP’s) Chilufya Tayali, People’s Alliance for Change (PAC’s) Sydney Zyambo, United Progressive Party (UPP’s) Francis Libanda and Patriotic Front (PF’s) Clement Tembo.

Others are Socialist Party’s Tripher Trevor Ngandu, Patriots for Economic Progress (PeP’s) Henry Muleya and United Party for National Development (UPND’s) Andrew Tayengwa.

Returning Officer, Helen Mubita has confirmed to QTV news that seven candidates will be on the ballot paper after candidates for the Rainbow Party, Democratic Party and an independent failed to file in their nominations.

And speaking shortly after filing in his nomination, Socialist Party’s Tripher Ngandu has promised to protect the welfare of the vulnerable in Kabwata especially the children.

Mr Ngandu who was until recently PF Kabwata constituency chairman says he joined the party after realizing that it has never been involved in any form of corrupt practices like the PF where he is coming from.

And UPND’s Andrew Tayengwa has urged the people of Kabwata to vote for the ruling party again just as they did in the August 12 polls in order to guarantee development to the area.

Meanwhile, PeP’s Henry Muleya has vowed to empower the residents of Kabwata using the increased Constituency Development Fund by turning it into a revolving fund.

The Kabwata by-election was necessitated following the death of UPND MP Levy Mkandawire who died in an accident.
