Government has directed all water utilities to scale up service delivery by improving the treatment of water to required standards.

Speaking in Kitwe today when he called on district commissioner Lawrence Mwanza, Minister of waster development and sanitation Mike Mposha says Zambians are demanding for clean and safe drinking water, hence the need to upscale the supply and treatment of the commodity.

Mr Mposha says improving the treatment of water to required standards in the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic is very important.

The Minister is in Kitwe to familiarize himself with projects under Nkana Water Supply and Sanitation Company.

And Kitwe District Commissioner Lawrence Mwanza informed the minister that vandalism of water infrastructure is rampant in the district.

Mr Mwanza says the situation is also coupled with water supply challenges in various parts of Kitwe town.
