Two artists have been acquitted by the Choma Magistrate Court for the offence of insulting Former President Edgar Lungu in a political song released in January this year.

Senior Resident Magistrate Peter Mungala dismissed the case after the State failed to bring witnesses to the Court since June this year when the case started.

The court overlooked the states’ application to buy more time to bring their witnesses to court.

In this case, two musical artists Augustine Kaunda and Gift Hachilema were appearing before the Choma Magistrate court faced with defamation of the president after allegedly insulting former President Edgar Lungu in a song.

The duo was accused of intentionally bringing the name of the president into ridicule and hatred through writing and recording a song.

But when the matter came up for plea, both accused persons pleaded not guilty and testified that there was nothing defamatory about the song.

Magistrate Mungala has since discharged the accused persons.
