Minister of Health Sylvia Masebo has announced that the ministry will begin administering covid-19 booster vaccines from Monday, 27th December, 2021.

Speaking during the covid-19 update in Lusaka todays Ms Masebo says the development is part of the resolutions arrived at following a meeting by the council of ministers on disaster management to deliberate on the prevailing covid situation and multisectoral approach to curb the further spread of the pandemic.

She says the booster vaccine meant to boost one’s immune system against covid-19 can either be the same one which was previously administered or a different one, but from the same basket of covid-19 approved vaccines.

Ms. Masebo says the booster vaccine will be administered to people above the age of eighteen with priority given to healthcare workers, the elderly and those with underlying health conditions and all those who are fully vaccinated but are due to receive the booster in that particular order.

And the minister says the ministry will begin administering covid-19 vaccines to children aged between 12 and 18.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Masebo disclosed that a total of 3,380 new confirmed cases of covid-19 were recorded from 13,341 tests conducted in the last 24 hours translating to 25 percent positivity rate.

She adds that there were 5-hundred and 46 recoveries and three deaths recorded in the same timeframe.
