Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has dismissed social media reports purporting that it has summoned Lumezi member of parliament Munir Zulu following his debate and allegations made in parliament that he once bribed some acc officials.

ACC public relations officer, Queen Chibwe tells q-news in a phone interview that the commission has not summoned the Lumezi lawmaker yet.

Ms. Chibwe says the commission will soon state its position on Mr. Zulu’s allegations against acc officers.

But Governance, Elections, Advocacy and Research Services (GEARS) executive director, Mcdonald Chipenzi says the commission cannot summon a sitting member of parliament over any debate on the floor of the house.

Mr. Chipenzi explains that provisions of the national assembly (powers and privileges) act gives mps immunity from civil or criminal proceedings over their debates or statements on the floor of the house.

He says as such mps enjoy freedom of speech and debate in the house which is not liable to be questioned by any court or institution outside the assembly.
