The Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) says significant progress was made to stabilize the number of road traffic crashes on the Zambian roads during the course of the year 2021.

RTSA director and chief executive officer, Gladwell Banda however, says the high number of road fatalities and injuries during the festive season, remains a major concern for the agency.

Mr. Banda says the agency continues to provide structured traffic law enforcement interventions and road safety education with communication and awareness programmes that positively influence all road users to improve their behaviour when using the road network.

In a statement obtained by Q-news, Mr. Banda says it will not be business as usual this festive season as RTSA, jointly working with the Zambia police has deployed adequate traffic law enforcement officers along the major highways in all parts of the country.

He says the agency has drawn up a proactive and tentative enforcement programme as means of promoting road safety during the festive period and beyond.

Mr. Banda says the agency will equally set up strategic spot checks for speed management and screening of drivers for drinking and driving.

Mr. Banda has since called for the cooperation of all road users urging them to work together with the agency to stop aggressive, dangerous driving and help prevent fatal crashes.
