Foundation for Democratic Process (FODEP) executive director George Chimembe has urged the new dawn government not to allow party cadres to intimidate police officers as the case was in the PF regime.

And Mr. Chimembe says the pronouncement by president Hakainde Hichilema that police officers should work free from political interference should be followed with action.

He tells q-news in a telephone interview that in order for the police to uphold the rule of law, they need to operate independently and professionally without political compromise.

Mr. Chimembe has since advised the UPND alliance government to always condemn any act of intimidation of police officers by cadres as failure to do so, portrays a picture that they are happy with the situation.

He says FODEP does not want to see any elements from the ruling party walking to the police to give instructions on how they should work.
