A marauding lion in Kauka village of Shambala Ward in Itezhi Tezhi district has attacked three people leaving them with injuries.

One of the victims Herbert Muchindu narrated that the lion was first spotted in the night when it attacked and killed some pigs within Kauka village.

Mr. Muchindu said alert villagers chased the lion but latter in the morning came back for the second time to terrorize the cattle but it changed course after it spotted 3 men and attacked them before one of them fired the gun he had and killed the beast.

And Kauka village headman Lawrence Chilala is worried that such incidences will continue to occur if a permanent preventative solution is not found.

Meanwhile Itezhi Tezhi Constituency Member of Parliament Twaambo Mutinta is saddened by the event and has called for the immediate setting up of a human animal conflict fund which will be used to protect the people and fund medicals as well as other needs when such unfortunate events occur.

Mr. Mutinta is of the view that Itezhi Tezhi being in the belly of the Kafue National Park needs serious attention with regards human animal conflicts which are inevitable now and in the future.
