Zambia National Students Union (ZANASU) has welcomed the decentralization of the awarding of student loans to the constituency level.

Speaking during a media briefing held at Eden university main campus in Lusaka, ZANASU president  Steven  Kanyakula says  that by mid next year, 50% of the students that have been left out in the latest awarding of the loans will be accommodated.

Mr. Kanyakula expressed disappointment that the government failed to secure the resources for the poor students recently left out of the loans award.

He states that it is day light robbery for the higher education loans scholarship board to fail to give students loans after recovering over 20 million from the students that got loans previously.

Mr. Kanyakula further asked government to solicit for funds to help those who cannot afford to pay for themselves.

Speaking at the same briefing, zambia national students union ZANASU secretary general Isaiah Mambwe has urged councilors in all the wards in the country to identify all vulnerable students that will be awarded student loans.
