The water resources management authority (WARMA) has noted a decline in the water table in some places, a trend which continues as a result of the dry spell being experienced in the country.

WARMA director general engineer Kenneth Nyundu says this is because ground water is replenished by rainfall.

Eng. Nyundu says it was expected that by now, the first ground water potential should have been receiving some relief by having the recharge going through.

He adds that the authority is aware that some boreholes have already dried up in some areas.

and Eng. Nyundu says other than the delayed rains, the authority is concerned with the human activity where people are now building anywhere, including places that are supposed to act as recharge areas to reach ground water.

He says as a result, the rate of replenishing ground water is being minimized every day, which calls for a multi-sectorial approach to address.
