Order and security to be restored – Haimbe

Justice minister Mulambo Haimbe says the new dawn government will put in place policies and strategies to enhance access to justice, observance of the rule of law and human rights to ensure there is order and security in the country.

Speaking when he officiated at the commemoration of the human rights day under the theme: “reducing inequalities, advancing human rights”, mr Haimbe says the UPND manifest  seeks for an environment that is aimed at improving the rule of law and human rights.

He says government in consultation with citizens will be taking practical legislative steps to ensure that human rights are protected by law and the rule of law, adding that a number of pieces of legislation will be reviewed and enacted to protect the rights of various categories of citizens including children.

Mr Haimbe has also reiterated that the new dawn administration remains committed to the review of the public order act and will put in place administrative measures to ensure that there is no longer any form of discrimination in its application.

Speaking earlier, human rights commission director Florence Chibwesha noted that the vulnerable and marginalized members of society deserve special protection from the government in order to enjoy their human rights and freedoms on an equal basis with others in society.
