The National Action for Quality Education (NAQUEZ) is urging the new dawn administration to consider awarding teachers a decent salary increment to enable them meet the high cost of living estimated at K8,000 for a family of six.

In a statement obtained by Q-news, NAQUEZ Executive Director Aaron Chansa says teacher have suffered for too long, especially that they have not had a reasonable salary increment since 2012.

Mr Chansa says NAQUEZ is also aware that an overwhelming majority of teachers are expecting the unions to convince government to make serious NAPSA reforms and reduce the retirement age from 65 to 55.

He has also noted the need to look into the upgrading of salary scales for those who have acquired higher professional qualifications and confirmation in substantive positions.
