Opposition Patriots for Economic Progress (PeP) President Sean Tembo has expressed shock and disappointment over the ruling by Speaker of the National Assembly Nelly Mutti stopping members of parliament who had their seats nullified by the high court from attending parliamentary business.

Mr Tembo says it is a well-established precedence that members of parliament whose seats are nullified by the courts and have appealed continue to attend parliamentary business, and that these legal presidencies have been there for the past 30-years.

He notes that for the Speaker to make such a decision, it only means she has overturned the legal precedence’s which were set a long time without any consultations.

Mr Tembo says the Speaker of the national assembly is not a court of law and has no jurisdiction and authority to overturn well established legal precedence’s in terms of a Member of Parliament attending parliament until the Constitutional Court passes its ruling.

He has since called on the affected members of parliament to seek legal redress.
