Government says the fight against deforestation has been a challenge for the forestry sector because it lacks adequate resources.

Minister of green economy and environment Collins Nzovu says a lot of trees are being cut impunity but it is hard for the forestry officers to monitor because the man-power is limited.

He was speaking when finish ambassador to Zambia Pirjo Suomela paid a courtesy call on him at his office today.

Engineer Nzovu noted that Finland has been one of Zambia’s major supporters in environmental preservation but that the support has gradually dwindled.

He says Zambia is ready to restore the cooperation with the finish government in its quest to fight deforestation.

Engineer Nzovu has since called for support from the finnish government through its resident embassy in curbing deforestation in Zambia.

And finnish ambassador to Zambia Pirjo Suomela has urged Zambia to take its place in curbing deforestation by promoting good governance and rule law because it is cardinal to ending the vice.

She notes that Zambia was already on the right path of ending deforestation looking at the current state of governance.
