The Ministry of Green Economy and Environment has stressed that the need for innovative solutions in the area of climate change mitigation and adaption is an opportunity for the private sector to develop new products and services and serve new markets.

Minister of Green Economy and Environment Collins Nzovu says government is engaging with the private sector, civil society, cooperating partners and other stakeholders to mobilize resources, knowledge, and innovation to help in overcoming the various challenges including climate change, environmental pollution, deforestation and forest degradation in the quest to attain green growth.

Speaking at the launch of the Zambia Impact Investment summit in Lusaka sponsored by the Finnish government, Mr Nzovu says a thriving impact investment ecosystem will be central to private sector led growth and investment that will in turn help to confront the social and environmental challenges that Zambia faces.

In a speech read on his behalf by ministry of green economy director of environment, Godwin Ngulube, the Minister says government is resolute to building a sustainable, inclusive and green recovery and ensure the developmental agenda takes into consideration the need to conserve the environment.

Speaking earlier, Finnish Embassy Charge’ d’ Affaires Patricia Loflund-Siclait says her government is keen to play its part in contributing to job creation, livelihoods and economic development in Zambia, through accelerated growth for small and medium enterprise (SME’s) and other programs.

She says the summit is an important stepping stone in promoting green recovery, innovation and solutions that meet local needs, especially of those most vulnerable.
