Ministry of Health Director Infectious Diseases Professor Lloyd Mulenga says government is considering vaccination for children aged 12 to 16.

Prof. Mulenga says early data shows that children are being infected as well.

He says as soon as government decides the vaccination for the young ones will be rolled out.

Prof. Mulenga adds that the ministry of health is also considering which population can be administered with a booster dosage of the vaccine.

And professor Mulenga says the news of the new Omicron COVID-19 variant should not be the one to lead the nation to mass vaccination, but that people should do it voluntarily to avert the severity of the looming fourth wave of COVID–19.

He says vaccination is the only greatest intervention to prevent COVID-19.

And Prof Mulenga has advised those who could have lost their vaccination certificates to visit any vaccination centre with their national registration cards NRCs to have them replaced as their details of vaccination are in the national data base.

Speaking to Q-News in an interview, Prof. Mulenga says the ministry of health will soon start issuing electronic vaccination certification cards.
