The Health Professions Council of Zambia (HPCZ) has noted with concern that reports of health workers displaying bad attitude towards patients have persisted in some health facilities.

HPCZ Registrar and Chief Executive Officer, Bwembya Bwalya has expressed displeasure at the negative behavior of some health workers.

Mr. Bwalya said this when he addressed Physiotherapists at the on-going Zambia Society of Physiotherapy (ZSP) Scientific Symposium in Eastern Province under the theme: Long Covid Physiotherapy.

He has disclosed that some of the uncalled for attitudes include lack of compassion for patients, deliberate delays in attending to people who seek healthcare services and continued failure to adhere to the Code of Ethics within the health profession.

Mr. Bwalya says providing healthcare services should not be seen as a favor to the public because public health workers are employed by the taxpayers through the Government of Zambia.

He says those operating in the private sector are similarly employed by the people who pay to access services at private facilities.

And the HPCZ Registrar has warned that apart from suspending practicing licenses for erring health practitioners, his institution will in extreme cases name such practitioners to international health regulatory authorities.

Mr.Bwalya says by doing so, health practitioners especially those intending to work outside the Country will not be able to, as their record of poor attitude or professional misconduct would have already been known by the international regulatory bodies.
