Lusaka based Environmentalist William Harrington has commended the United Party for National Development (UPND) for taking keen interest in the perennial challenge of flooding in vulnerable parts of Lusaka.

Mr. Harrington says it was gratifying to see Vice-President W.K. Mutale Nalumango showing concern by inspecting some drainage construction works in Lusaka’s Kanyama area which prone to floods.

He says the challenge of flooding negatively impacts on the livelihoods of the people with high risks of diseases.

Mr. Harrington explains that Lusaka generally has a water table because of its rock formation; hence rainy water does not sink into the ground thereby resulting pit latrines being flooded and the fecal matter spilling into shallow wells where residents draw water for consumption and domestic use.
