The National Action for Quality Education in Zambia (NAQEZ) says it will not accept the 100 percent progression of all grade 7 examination candidates to grade 8 next year.

In a statement availed to Q-news, NAQUEZ Executive Director  Aaron Chansa says unlike in the past when all the learners who sat for the grade 7 examination progressed into grade 8 even when they failed, his organization will peacefully protest against the 100% progression ,if it is repeated.

Mr Chansa says NAQEZ strongly believes that the new Minister of Education Douglas Siakalima and his team will also not entertain this retrogressive and very unpopular practice.

He urges the Ministry of Education to act now in the best interest of quality education and the Country.

Mr Chansa has since stressed the need to reintroduce the cut-off points at grade 7 level.

He states that though not a panacea to the low calibre of secondary school learners in Zambia, this reintroduction will help to raise academic competition and spur more hard work among  primary school teachers, learners and parents. Mr Chansa suggests that only candidates who will  get more than 600 marks should be allowed to get into grade 8 in January 2022, stating that Zambians are fed up with having pupils in grade 8 who can’t even write their names
