Zambia National Marketers Credit Association (ZANAMACA) president Mupila Kameya has called on government through the ministry of local government and rural development to expedite the construction of markets in order to accommodate the increasing number of marketeers.

Mr. Kameya says markets have become a major employer in the informal sector with more graduates and school leavers starting up their own businesses.

He tells Q-news that in order to support the informal sector, there is need for proper infrastructure development where everyone will be accommodated.

Mr. Kameya notes that for a long period of time there has been a challenge of market space, and hopes the removal of cadres from markets which has seen local authorities taking charge of markets and collecting sufficient levies will translate into the renovation of most markets and construction of modern markets across the country
