Presidential residence requires refurbishment -Veep

Vice President Mutale Nalumango says Nkwazi house the presidential residence at State House needs to be worked on before President Hakainde Hichilema can move in.

Responding to a question by Shiwang’andu Member of Parliament Stephen Kampyongo why the president has not moved into his official residence just like his predecessors did, taking into consideration his security, Mrs Nalumango says President Hichilema will move into the Presidential residence once it is refurbished.

She says at the moment there are no resources to work on the presidential residence.

Mrs Nalumango states that government still believes that the President still needs to be resident at State House.

And the Vice President has apologized to Parliament after initially suggesting that the charge of attempted murder facing former Defence Minister Davies Chama is non bailable.

The vice president was responding to a question by leader of the opposition in Parliament Brian Mundubile who wanted to know why the Police have continued to detain suspects for prolonged period against the President’s pronouncement that no one will be detained for more than 48 hours for bondable offences.  

Mr Chama has been in Police detention for the last six days for a case of attempted murder committed during a by-election in Mulobezhi constituency in 2015.
