Minister of Green Economy and Environment, Collins Nzovu says the election of Zambia to the chairmanship of the African Group of Negotiators at the COP26 in Glasgow,Scotland is a testimony to the great attributes of President Hakainde Hichilema’s inspiring leadership.
Speaking during a media breakfast in Lusaka today, Mr Nzovu says Zambia will be at the center of African negotiators on environmental matters to ensure climate mitigation measures by African countries are successful.
He says President Hichilema made it easier for the Zambian delegation at COP26 to engage in fruitful discussions with other partners because of his inspiring leadership.
Mr Nzovu says the next two years are going to be crucial for the nation because other African nations will be looking forward to Zambia’s leadership leading to the COP27 in Egypt.
Speaking at the same event, Head of the European Union delegation Jacek Jankowski commended Zambia for being elected to the chairmanship of the African Group of Negotiators on Climate Change.
Mr Jankowshi says the leadership role assumed by Zambia calls for more responsibility in mitigating the fight against the climate crisis on the African continent.
