The Zambia Statistics Agency (ZAMSTAT) Has Called On The Local Media For More Engagements With The Agency To Foster An Increased Interest In Statistics Because They Play A Major Role In National Development.
Interim Statistician General Mulenga Musepa Has Noted That There Is Less Coverage Of Statistical Aspects By Most Local Media Which Deprives The Public From Appreciating The Value Of Statistics.
Speaking When He Officiated At A Media Workshop Aimed At Equipping Local Journalists With Statistics Literacy, Mr Musepa Said Journalists Are Free To Engage ZAMBSTAT So That Society Is Well Informed About Various Official Statistics As The Agency Is The Sole Institution Mandated By Law To Declare Statistics As Official In Zambia.
He However Says The Agency Will Continue Partnering With Other Institutions In The Aspect Of Statistics Due To Its Limited Resources But Will Take Time To Measure And Monitor The Methodologies Of Gathering The Statistics So That They Are In Line With Its Mandate.
