UNZA lecturers call off go-slow

Acting Education Minister Elvis Nkandu says government has released K48 million to the University of Zambia towards the payment of outstanding gratuities to workers at the institution.

In a ministerial statement to Parliament on the recent go-slow and protest by UNZA lecturers and students respectively, Mr Nkandu says an additional K50 million will be released to the institution.

He says UNZA management has since been instructed to initiate the payment of outstanding gratuities immediately.

Mr Nkandu says a stakeholders meeting held on Wednesday,10th November,2021 which included UNZA management and union representatives came up with six resolutions which resulted in three unions calling off their go-slow.

He adds that students who have challenges in paying tuition fees will be allowed to sit for the examinations while their results will be withheld until after clearing their outstanding tuition fees.

Mr Nkandu further states that the ministry of education will expedite the process of appointing University Councils at all public universities as one sure way of improving operations and service delivery.
