Govt commits to constructing the new Luangwa Bridge

Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development Minister, Charles Milupi says the new dawn government remains committed to building the new Luangwa Bridge across the Luangwa River on the Great East road.

Mr. Milupi says the matter is now before Cabinet for consideration and approval and he is confident that Cabinet will consider the matter favorably.

Speaking at his office when the Japanese Ambassador to Zambia, Ryuta Mizuuchi paid a courtesy call on him , Mr .Milupi said he will communicate government’s decision as soon as it is made.

And Hon. Milupi further said he is happy that the Japanese government is collaborating with Zambia in other areas such as urban development adding that it is gratifying that Japan through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is working with his Ministry in strengthening urban development through the development of integrated development plans for cities and towns.

And the Japanese ambassador said his Government has already come up with a design for the New Luangwa Bridge and the new location where it will be constructed.

Ambassador Mizuuchi said his country is now just awaiting official requests from the Zambian government stating that his government will continue to assist Zambia to develop its public infrastructure base although now it is focusing on helping the country link up with other countries in the region given its geographical and strategic position.

Mr. Mizuuchi said this is why Japan was involved in the construction of the Kazungula Bridge and is also interested in constructing a new Luangwa Bridge across the Luangwa River.
