Government has called on the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ) to step up efforts and provide the needed advice in the implementation of projects.

Speaking when the Institute led by its president Abel N’gandu paid a courtesy call on him, Minister of Water Development and Sanitation Mike Mposha notes that the institute has an important role of promoting advancement of science, engineering, technological and related disciplines to contribute to the improvement of quality of life for the people of Zambia.

Mr Mposha says EIZ is also required to provide an oversight role in developing; promoting and enforcing internationally comparable engineering standards in line with the Engineering Institution of Zambia act no 17 of 2010.

He stated that the organization’s role is key, particularly to the Ministry of Water Development and Sanitation by ensuring that the ministry’s mandate of harnessing water for social and productive use through construction and rehabilitation of water infrastructure, and in turn contribute to national water security by 2030 becomes a reality.

Meanwhile, EIZ president, Abel Ng’andu who pledged the institution’s commitment to closely working with the UPND Government, called on Government Ministries and departments to comply with the law by registering and employing qualified engineers who are affiliated to EIZ.
