US envoy advises govt to get rid of POA

Outgoing US Embassy Chargé d’ Affaires David Young has advised the new dawn government to get rid of the public order act or amend it.

Mr. Young says the public order act in its current form undermines the country’s democracy.

He has observed that Zambia has a strong multiparty democracy that needs to be enhanced by either amending or completely doing away with the public order act which he says disadvantages the opposition.

Speaking during his exit press conference where he highlighted a number of pertinent issues, Mr. Young urged the ruling UPND alliance government to level the political playing field.

And Mr. Young has encouraged Zambians to get vaccinated against COVID 19.

Mr. Young says the fourth wave coming in December will be more severe and that the only way to counter it is by having a larger proportion of the population vaccinated.
