The Food Reserve Agency (FRA) has clarified that the maize that was soaked at its Katangalika satellite depot in Mwalala ward of Chama north constituency in Muchinga province following a heavy downpour belongs to farmers who have been waiting to have their maize purchased.

FRA Public Relations Coordinator John Chipandwe says 2,750 bags were affected and not 3,500 by 50 kilogramme bags as was reported.

Mr Chipandwe says none of the agency’s purchased maize at the named depot has gone to waste as alleged as all the purchased maize is secured.

In a statement made available to Q-News, Mr Chipandwe says the agency has requested the affected farmers whose maize was soaked to keep their maize in sunlight so that it could dry after which the agency will buy it.

He says Agency sympathizes with the affected farmers and regrets the occurrence which resulted in the maize being soaked.
