The Council of Churches in Zambia (CCZ) has condemned the barbaric behaviour exhibited by some United Party for National Development (UPND) cadres who have been harassing individuals and groups perceived to be members of the Patriotic Front.

CCZ Secretary General Emmanuel Chikoya has specifically condemned the closure of Choma’s Debonair Pizza belonging to PF member of the central committee Kebby Mbewe for not displaying the Presidential portrait.

Fr. Chikoya adds that the unruly behaviour by protestors on the Copperbelt over the black mountain who allegedly harassed some police officers and the harassment of PF Mandevu Constituency MP Christopher Shakafuswa’s key witness in the election petition Lukas Tompwe at the Lusaka high court recently should also be condemned.

He notes that the media has been flooded with unpleasant stories of a growing number of UPND cadres going against what the new government has promised to bring an end to with impunity.

Fr Chikoya states that looking at the way things are unfolding and if no decisive deterrent measures are put in place, the country is likely to slide back to a situation where what the President has said becomes mere pronouncements.
