The Office of the Auditor General has launched a toll free line for members of the public to report issues of concern with regards the management of public resources.

Speaking during the launch of the toll line 5566 in Lusaka today, Auditor General Dick Sichembe says the number is currently active on two mobile networks namely Zamtel and MTN, and that plans are underway to have it on Airtel as well.

Dr Sichembe says the call center will be operational from Monday to Saturday from 08:00 hours to 17 hours and that callers will be allowed to remain anonymous if they chose to.

He says the toll free line will enable whistleblowers to report financial irregularities in a timely and convenient manner.

Dr Sichimbe has since warned controlling officers that his office will not hesitate to expose any of them who will be found wanting.

Speaking at the same event, Swedish deputy head of mission Susanna Hughes has pledged her country’s support to fighting corruption in Zambia.
