No one has died out of hunger- VEEP

Vice President Inonge Wina says no one has died so far as a result hunger in the Country.

Mrs. Wina states that government cannot allow any such death to occur and that if there was any such death, a report would have been received by now by government.

She has told Parliament during the Vice President’s Question Time that Zambia remains food secure.

Mrs. Wina says the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) has in the last 9 months, reached out to 1.7 million Zambians affected by the hunger situation.

She has also explained that the allocation of K28 million in the 2020 national budget for emergencies such as hunger situations will not be the only money available for the DMMU.

Mrs Wina has told the House that the DMMU can still source from the K100 million which government has allocated as contingency.

The vice president was responding to a question by Leader of the Opposition in Parliament Jack Mwiimbu who wanted her to state where government will find the money to feed the increasing number of starving Zambians.
