GTAZ and MAZ welcome Zambia/DRC maize export deal

Stakeholders in the agriculture sector have welcomed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo aimed at facilitating the export of six hundred thousand metric tons of maize and Mealie Meal to the DRC.

Grain Traders Association of Zambia Executive Director Chambuleni Simwinga says the actualization of the MOU will make the agriculture sector the second biggest foreign exchange earner.

Mr Simwinga has told QTV News that one of the biggest challenges they have been facing as an association is smuggling.

And Millers Association Zambia President, Andrew Chintala says the MOU will help spur maize production in the country.

Mr Chintala notes that Zambia has been losing revenue through uncollected taxes due to the informal trade that has been going on between Zambia and the DRC.
