Govt investing massively in ICT sector

Misheck Lungu

Government says it is investing massively in the Information and Communications Technology sector because it has the potential to spur efficient service provision as well as economic growth.

Ministry of Transport and Communications Permanent Secretary Misheck Lungu has cited the construction of mobile communications towers across the country and the establishment of an ICT talent training centre as some of the ICT infrastructure investment government is undertaking.

Speaking in Lusaka during the launch of the Huawei ICT competition Southern Africa 2019-2020 and Zambia ICT seeds for the Future 2019, Mr. Lungu says government recognizes the critical role ICT plays in the development process, hence the massive investment.

And Chinese Ambassador to Zambia Li Jie has urged prospective Zambian students to consider studying in China as it offers good prospects of employment to graduates.

Mr Jie says China has over 1,000 universities which offers a wide range of courses which are open to students from other countries to pursue their academic progress.

He says currently over 1,000 scholarships have been offered to Zambian students and over 4,000 Zambian students are studying in China.

Speaking earlier, Huawei Technologies Zambia Cooperation Limited Managing Director Anthony Yu says the company will continue to drive digital inclusion and contributing to national development.
