Promoting local content helps preserve tradition – Kasolo

Information and Broadcasting Services Permanent Secretary Chanda Kasolo has noted the need to promote local content as a way of protecting the country’s tradition and values.

Mr. Kasolo notes that there is a problem of certain interest groups pushing for Zambia and other similar countries to change the way they look at certain behaviours such as recognizing homosexuality which is not acceptable in the country.

He says one of the tools that such interest groups are using is television, hence the need to be cautious with what people are watching especially the children.

He says this is why government through digital migration has built nearly complete 8 Provincial Studios for each provincial headquarter with the aim to encourage local artists to produce content at a minimal fee.

Mr. Kasolo said this during the launch of Diamond TV Channel on DSTV Channel 271.

Speaking at the same launch, MultiChoice Zambia Head of Corporate Affairs Mwiika Malindima says MultiChoice will continue to partner with local TV channels and local content providers to show commitment to growing the Zambian TV and film industry.

And Diamond TV Chief Executive Officer, Costa Mwansa says the TV station’s presence on DStv will give Zambian talent and local producers an opportunity to express themselves and grow their potential on a bigger platform.
