NAQEZ rejects K13.1billion allocated to education sector in 2020 national budget

The National Action for Quality Education in Zambia [NAQEZ] has rejected the K13.1billion allocated to the education sector in the 2020 national budget.

NAQEZ Executive Director, Aaron Chansa has expressed shock that the Minister of Finance has drastically reduced the amount from the 2019 appropriation by about 2.9%, when it was expected that the education sector would receive a substantial increase in allocation.

Mr. Chansa says this allocation is too small and a serious assault on all efforts aimed at providing quality teaching and learning in Zambian schools.

He has told QTV News that if approved by Parliament, this particular allocation will spell doom to education in 2020 and will acutely impair many programmes in both Ministries of Education.

Mr. Chansa says has expressed concern over the continued dwindling in allocation to the education sector despite genuine and consistent calls for more funding to the sector by stakeholders.

He has since appealed to Members of Parliament to reject the budgetary allocation to the education sector.
