Reject homosexuality, Lungu asks Zambians

President Edgar Lungu has called on Zambians to reject alien practices that undermine and threaten the foundation of their Country’s Christian values.

President Lungu states that certain rights enjoyed in other parts of the world cannot be replicated in Zambia because they are taboo to many of its cultures.

He says his administration’s promise to the Zambian people in July this year not to introduce gay rights in exchange of donor aid is therefore unequivocal.

The President notes that marriage in Zambia is specifically a union between a man and woman.

He has wondered how then same sex marriages cannot be frowned upon if homosexuality is scowled upon in the Country.

The Head of State has since cautioned politicians being courted by foreign powers to embrace gay rights to think about the future of Zambia.

This is contained in a statement released by special assistant for press and public relations Isaac Chipampe.

But opposition UPND has refuted social media reports suggesting that UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema supports lesbian and gay rights.

UPND spokesperson Charles Kakoma says the said social media reports are fake and are allegedly a concocted story by PF Media Director Sunday Chanda.

Mr. Kakoma has clarified that Mr. Hichilema did not  in fact grant in an interview to  the Associated Press in Italy to which the social media reports are being attributed to.

He has told Q-News Mr Hichilema is not even outside the country attending an international conference where he is alleged to have issued a statement supporting gay rights.
