ZRA destroys over 1,000 bricks of smuggled cigarettes

The Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) has destroyed over 1,300 bricks of cigarettes and 17 cases of tomato paste worth K118,000 which were smuggled into the country.

And the authority has donated assorted goods worth K205,000 to government institutions and charitable organizations.

ZRA Corporate Communications Manager Topsy Sikalinda has explained that the tomato paste could not be donated as it is nearing the expiry date, while the cigarettes cannot be donated or sold as the authority considers it to be toxic.

Mr Sikalinda has urged taxpayers to follow procedure when importing goods into the country to avoid being punished.

Meanwhile the authority has donated assorted goods to Chirundu social welfare office ,Zambia Police,Mtendere Mission hospital and Mudzi Wamoyp Orphanage.

Mr Sikalinda says the goods donated include 256 litres of cooking oil,27,240 kilograms of sugar,630 litres of fuel among others.

And the recipient institutions have expressed gratitude to the Zambia Revenue Authority for the donation.
